The Netherlands:Food Supplements News from the Netherlands

Attention, FBOs selling food supplements in the Netherlands and their advisors: some things are about to change over the coming years. Back in November 2019, it was announced that the Netherlands Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports ("the Ministry")would like to improve its enforcement approach to ensure safety of (active substances in) food supplements. Just over a year later, after a lengthy discussion, consultation of a number of involved parties and a delay due to COVID-19, the Minister announced its plans for the coming year(s) in a letter to the Parliament.1 The letter contains four action points, of which at least two will influence the day-to-day practice for businesses that are active in the food supplements sector in the Netherlands. This country report will highlight and briefly explain the four action points and background as described in the letter.
