The famous judgment of the Court of Justice of the EU Buy Irish holds that Member States are not authorised to promote national foodstuffs since such a procedure would be equivalent to quantitative restrictions to trade in goods within the internal market. However, the same judgment admits the possibility of public campaigns of national foodstuffs which feature an outstanding quality, in order to promote the general health of the local population. With respect to the required quality, the Buy Irish judgment details as follows:
