Chronic urticaria (CU), defined as the recurrence of wheals with or without angioedema occurring daily or almost daily for more than 6 weeks, is a common disease that may severely worsen the quality of life. CU is often an autoimmune disorder sustained by circulating histamine-releasing autoantibodies directed against the a-subunit of the high-affinity IgE receptor (FceRIa) or against IgE. The autol-ogous serum skin test (ASST) is the most frequently used in vivo screening test for the diagnosis of autoimmune urticaria, with a sensitivity of approximately 65% to 70%.
