An extended 60-day public consultation on recommendations to decommission the Brent oil and gas field in the North Sea has begun following submission by Shell U.K. Limited of a comprehensive decommissioning programme to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The field, located 180 km north-east of the Shetland Islands has produced around 3 billion boe since production commenced in 1976, which is almost 10% of UK production.
