Bringing a 1913 Thew steam shovel back to life

The old steam shovel's wheels had sunk deep into the ground. The wooden house was rotted, the boiler was shot. After jacking up the frame, Bob Kelly could see the serial plate. At the end of a dead-end road in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, sat a 1913 Type-O by the Thew Automatic Shovel Company of Lorain, Ohio. In 2000 when Kelly hauled it home to McDonald, Pennsylvania, collectors thought that none of the Type-O's were left. The shovel's owners doubted Kelly's restoration plan.
