摘要

The U.S. must ratchet up efforts to compete with China or "they're going to eat our lunch," President Biden told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, offering his first comments on his lengthy discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping the night before. Biden cited China's "major new initiatives" on rail transportation, car manufacturing and the production of new technologies, according to a copy of his remarks. Beijing has stressed a need to become technologically independent from the U.S. and is expected soon to roll out policies, beginning with its 14th five-year plan next month, focusing on advancing indigenous innovation.
