Emerging Technologies for Dairy Production

Demand for milk and milk products will grow because of increased per capita income worldwide and ongoing COVID 19 pandemic. Production of milk needs lesser land than that required for production of other livestock, poultry products and plant products.Increased urbanization and globalization will put pressure on developing efficient methods for dairy production by combining improved animal breeding methods, feed technology, automated machinery and equipment and efficient management practices. Besidesimproved efficiencies, demand will grow for supply of pure and safe milk and milk products with extended shelf life. Mechanization, instrumentation and process controls will do away with the human involvement. Introduction of milking machines, fodder handling and feeding machines, fodder harvesting systems and new milk processing technologies will find greater use. This month's write up highlights some of the significant emerging techniques in animal breeding, feeding and management practices for dairy production system.
