Comparative cognition in context: a tribute to the contributions of Sara J. Shettleworth.

At the 2008 meeting of the International Society of Comparative Cognition in Melbourne, Florida, Sara Shettleworth was honoured with the Comparative Cognition Society's Research Award, presented each year since 2002 to an individual who, in his or her research career, has made "outstanding contributions to the study of cognitive processes in animals." In addition, the recipient is invited to present a Master Lecture at the annual meeting and is honoured with a symposium of invited speakers - former students and close colleagues - whose own research reflects the awardee's interests and contributions. Finally, a manuscript based on the awardee's Master Lecture is reprinted in a Special Issue of this journal, together with papers based on the symposium presentations and several other invited articles. Thus, this Special Issue, entitled "Comparative Cognition in Context," is the last in a series of events to honour the scientific contributions of Sara Shettleworth.
