Quite often we hear the assertion that the Canadian and American cattle industries are very similar. I have said so myself more times than I would like to admit. "We are the same," I have said, "only one-tenth the size."That is an enormously superficial level of understanding that hit home to me recently when the "new" and previous(2009-2017) U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack let it be known that he was favourably disposed to the reintro-duction of Country of Origin Labelling (COOL) that was so disruptive when enacted a few years ago.
