China’s imports peak in January, dip in February

China’s LNG imports reached an all-time high in January, but dipped in February as Asian spot LNG prices reached record highs. The country imported 8.49mn t of LNG in January, up by 11.7pc from its previous high of 7.59mn t in December 2020. But imports then fell by 34.5pc to 5.55mn t in February. China’s customs bureau did not provide a breakdown for individual months across January-February last year, with imports in the two-month period totalling 11.1mn t.
