Classification and Reclassification of Adult Renal Epithelial Tumors

In the early classification of renal neoplasms, malignant epithelial tumors were grouped together regardless of their histologic architecture.1-2 Basically, there was one malignant tumor (adenocarcinoma) and one benign tumor (adenoma). Adenoma was differentiated from adenocarcinoma on the basis of size; the threshold of 3 cm in diameter was considered discriminant.
