THE PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL IMPACTS OF MINING POLICIES ON ENVIRONMENTS IN BANTARBOLANG SUB-DISTRICT OF PEMALANG REGENCY, INDONESIA

Local government's efforts in increasing regional incomes through mining activities result in environmental and social impacts. This research aims to discuss the physical and social impacts due to the mining policies applicable in Bantarbolang sub-district of Pemalang regency. A case study is a method used to conduct this research in Bantarbolang sub-district. The data are collected through in-depth interview, observation, and literature study. The research results show that Bantarbolang is a sub-district with the most numerous mining activities using heavy equipment in Pemalang regency, consisting of 4 operating locations. There are sand, stone, and reclamation soil mining activities. The physical impacts of mining activities include landscape changes, water deposit reduction, air pollution, and public infrastructure damages. Meanwhile, the social impacts include land owners' losses, people's inconvenience living around mining locations, social conflicts, and land borders disappearance.
