Shchekinoazot expands methanol tankcar feet

Russian petrochemicals company Shchekinoazot is buying 132 methanol tankcars from rolling stock manufacturer OVK. The 73t model 15-6880 tankcars should be delivered in August-September. The units will serve a new 500,000 t/yr methanol unit in the Tula region, which is scheduled to start up in September, market participants say, increasing Shchekinoazot’s methanol production capacity to 1.4mn t/yr — the highest in Eu- rope. Its methanol tankcar feet already exceeds 1,000, a source familiar with the situation says — including 166 model 15-6880 units bought in 2019. Shchekinoazot aims to increase its feet to about 1,500 and will also source tankcars to lease.
