Petrobras names interim chief executive

Brazil’s state-controlled Petrobras has named Carlos Alberto Pereira de Oliveira as interim chief executive, postponing the confirmation of Joaquim Silva e Luna. Pereira de Oliveira is the company’s upstream director, one of a number of senior executives that indicated their intention to step down after President Jair Bolsonaro controversially nominated Silva e Luna, a former army general, for the top post in February, ending the two-year tenure of technocratic chief executive Roberto Castello Branco. The latest move, at an extraordinary shareholders meeting on 12 April, is yet another sign of internal discord within the top echelons of Petrobras since Bolsonaro moved to overhaul its management.
