South Korea’s pellet imports rise in February

South Korea’s wood pellet imports rose by 31pc on the year to 253,000t in February, supported by a higher renewable portfolio standard (RPS) obligation for this year as well as higher demand from dedicated biomass power plant capacity. Under the country's RPS programme, power producers in South Korea with more than 500MW of capacity are obligated to produce 9pc of their output from renewable sources — equivalent to around 39mn MWh — in 2021, up from 7pc and 31.4mn MWh in 2020, according to South Korea's ministry of trade, industry and energy (Motie).
