Norway turns wood pellet exporter in 2020

Norway became a net exporter of wood pellets in 2020 as imports more than halved on the year, driven by a decline in domestic heating demand, and exports increased more than six-fold. The country exported a net 15,000t of wood pellets in 2020, a sharp reversal from the 64,000t net imported in 2019. The country net exported in three quarters of 2020, with only the frst quarter recording a net of 7,000t imported, still down by 82.9pc on the year, driven by the lack of heating demand. Norway net exported 5,000t of wood pellets in October-December 2020, compared with net imports of 17,000t a year earlier.
