St Petersburg wood pellet handling climbs in 2020

Anuual wood pellet throughput at the Russian port of St Petersburg hit a record high in 2020 thanks to infrastructure and logistics upgrades, rising demand and a drop in frst- quarter ice restrictions. St Petersburg handled just over 660,000t of wood pellets last year, a rise of almost 50pc from 444,000t in 2019, the port authority said (see chart). Loadings reached 162,000t in October-December, a rise of 36.1pc from 119,000t in the fourth quarter of 2019.
