Biomass projects win 8pc of Dutch renewables fund

Biomass projects totalling 133.8MW of capacity have been allocated Dutch SDE+ subsidies in the country’s autumn 2017 auction for renewables, receiving European dollar 459.67mn out of a total European dollar 6.04bn awarded to all technologies. Funding was awarded to nine biomass-fired power projects with a combined capacity of 22.1MW, to six renewable gas from biomass projects totalling 33.8MW, and to 27 biomass combined heat and power (CHP) projects amounting to 78MW. Within the biomass-fired heating sector, 18 solid biomass-fired boiler projects of a combined 52.2MW were awarded European dollar 113.2mn in subsidies. Most were below 5MW but Dutch utility Eneco’s 39MW Utrecht plant was granted subsidies of European dollar 101.5mn.
