Brazil's biomass generation increased by 14pc in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period of 2017, as dry weather reduced hydroelectricity and pushed up spot prices, according to the electricity clearinghouse CCEE. A total of 270 biomass-fired thermoelectric plants delivered an average of 2,407MW to the grid in the first half of the year, compared to 2,113MW during the same period last year, when 261 biomass plants delivered power to the grid.
