Market participants in the Rockies still expect asphalt prices to rise in April, despite erratic movements in the crude market over the last week. Argus held pricing for Rockies asphalt at $285-$320/short ton. No transactions were reported over the past seven days. But those expectations did soften slightly. A couple of sellers said that that further declines in the price of crude could mute some gains for asphalt shipped in April. Expected price increases were less than anticipated last week, ranging from $10-$30/st. Refners said they still need to raise prices to generate adequate margins from their asphalt.
