The performances of calixarene derivative containing nitrogen atom used as a neutral carrier for silver polymeric membrane electrode and in metal ions transport by bulk liquid membrane were investigated. The faster transport rates were found by the soft heavy metal ions such as Ag+, Hg2+ in the bulk liquid membrane system. The silver ion-selective electrode based on calixarene derivative gave a good Nernstian response of 57 mV per decade for silver in the activity range 5 x 10(-6)-10(-2) M, the limit of detection reached 10(-5.3) M and exhibited high selectivity towards alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal ions. The electrode was used as the indicator electrode in titrations of Br- and Cl- with Ag+ ion. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. [References: 31]
