Total to award East Africa Crude Pipeline next month

Total hopes to award the contracts for its East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) to export oil from Uganda to the coast in Tanzania next month. Revised tenders were submitted in October but it is uncertain if the company has fnalised land acquisition for the 1,445km pipeline which will transit 230,000 b/d of oil from 1.7 Bn bbl of reserves and is expected to cost around US $3.5 Bn. Total had been hoping to make a fnal investment decision (FID) by the end of 2020 but a host government agreement with Tanzania was only signed in December, several months after the agreement with Uganda. The deadline was always op-timistic given the chaotic election campaign in Uganda.
