摘要

The likelihood of the foreign joint venture partners in Nigeria try-ing to sell off onshore acreage increased further as the landscape continued to shift over oil companies’ liability relating to oil spills. The foreign operators have already been selling off onshore acreage in recent years and earlier this month Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) chief Ben van Beurden said the frm would take “another hard look at its onshore oil operations” following a landmark ruling in the Netherlands over pollution responsibility. Now the UK Supreme Court has added to the company’s concerns, allowing Nigerian farmers to sue RDS in England, although the company itself has in turn started international arbitration against Nigeria over a separate pollution dispute.
