The Nigerian government is looking to include 46 blocks in the next Nigerian marginal fields round which is now expected to start early next year. A round starting this year now appears unlikely but the government will also be wary of leaving the decision on any block awards too close to the general election in February 2019. This could lead to allegations of political bias in the choice of winners and bidders may therefore stay away because of concerns the awards could be rescinded by the incoming government.
