Eurofer urges caution amid lift for sector

European steel producers appear to be gaining from higher demand as 2017 unfolds, but sector bodyEurofer this week warned uncertainty remains, especially with imports.After a surprisingly high 7.1% year-on-year rise in EU apparent steel consumption in Q4, preliminary Q1 datasignals a 2.1% y/y growth in the region's steel use with customs statistics for January and February showingtotal imports rising by 1.2% y/y. "This would suggest that also domestic deliveries must have benefited fromimproving steel demand in the EU," Eurofer said.
