TEXTRON AWARDED INITIAL TUNISIAN T-6C CONTRACT

TEXTRON AVIATION Defense has received a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract for the procurement of long lead production items and spares to for eight T-6C Texan IIs destined for the Tunisian Air Force in 2022. The $ 12.49m firm-fixed-price, undefinitized contract, which was awarded to the company by the USAF Life Cycle Management Center on June 11, includes a site survey in Tunisia. Work is expected to be completed in October 2022. An initial $6.24m in funding was released at the time of award. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) had announced on October 10, 2019, State Dept approval for a possible FMS deal to sell 12 T-6Cs to Tunisia and notified Congress. At that time, the cost was estimated at $234m, including, spares, support, an operational flight trainer and other equipment. Tunisian Minister of Defense Imed Hazgui announced on November 19, 2020, that the government had approved a contract for eight aircraft, plus related equipment and support, to replace Tunisia's ageing advanced trainers, presumably the Aero L-59T Albatros.
