EU member states oppose titanium dioxide labelling derogation proposal

Several EU member states have objected to a European Commission proposal to exempt solid plastic mixtures containing titanium dioxide from new labelling requirements, following the substance's highly contentious CLP classification as a carcinogen. Six countries, including Germany and Sweden, rejected the Commission's arguments in favour of the derogation, saying they were apprehensive about further complicating a classification decision that took nearly a decade to make and is subject to a spate of legal challenges.
