EPA issues proposed rule to start US phasedown of HFCs

The US EPA has proposed a rule to guide how it will determine and allocate allowances for the use and production of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) over the next two years, marking the opening stages of what will be a 15-year phasedown of the potent greenhouse gases. Companies that produce, import, export, destroy, reclaim or distribute HFCs may be affected by the proposed rule and phasedown, the agency said. Manufacturers of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, foams, aerosols or fire suppressants that use HFCs may also be impacted.
