摘要

NGOs have urged the UK government not to agree to industry demands for reduced data submissions under its independent REACH regime, warning that such an approach would be a 'major weakening' of the legislation and significantly diminish its ability to control hazardous substances. A letter sent to top ministers and signed by 22 campaign groups signals the difficult choice the government faces in the coming months between alleviating the huge extra data costs UK REACH imposes on industry, or insisting on full studies in order to have a strong grip on chemical controls.
