Industry 'pleased' with major update to cosmetics risk assessment guidance

Trade body Cosmetics Europe is "very pleased" with a major update of the European Commission's guidance on the safety assessment of cosmetics under EU legislation. In particular, it described the inclusion of an exposure-led approach to risk assessment, which it helped develop - called 'next generation risk assessment' (NGRA) - as "a significant development". The Commission's Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) published the 11th revision of its 'notes of guidance for the testing of cosmetic ingredients and their safety evaluation' on 14 April.
