Industry groups to join EPA in defence of TSCA risk evaluation for methylene chloride

A federal appeals court has given the green light to the American Chemistry Council (ACC), the Halogenated Solvents Industry Alliance (HSIA) and the N-methylpyrrolidone Producers Group, Inc. (NMP Group) to intervene in defence of the US EPA and its TSCA risk evaluation for methylene chloride. The three industry groups will look to defend the EPA’s conclusion that there was no unreasonable risk associated with six applications of the solvent, in a pivotal case that will serve as an early test of whether the agency’s approach to conducting substance reviews will stand up to a legal challenge.
