The regulatory systems governing food contact materials (FCMs) in Latin America run the gamut of complex to minimal. Several of the principal economies in Latin America have largely harmonised their framework of laws as full members of Mercosur (Mercado Comun Del Sur, or 'the Common Market of the South'), the largest trade bloc in South America.
