One fifth of EU dangerous product alerts due to hazardous chemicals: Phthalate, boron content a recurring issue in children’s articles

The presence of hazardous substances in consumer goods accounted for almost one fifth (18%) of all product risks that national authorities notified last year to the EU’s Safety Gate rapid alert system, known as Rapex, highlighting the need for better supply chain communication and enforcement. The number of chemical-related alerts is down from the 25% they represented during 2019, but chemicals have remained the second most common risk notification for two years in a row, after injuries.
