German survey confirms narrowing choice of in-can preservatives

The "demanding and protracted" process for approving biocides is a major cause of a lack of research into active ingredients for in-can preservatives for water-based coatings and adhesives, according to a survey by the German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Baua). Baua says the potential options have narrowed, and if companies are going to be able to find alternatives, the approval process should be made quicker and governments need to support R&D in this field.
