California proposes Prop 65 listing for tetrahydrofuran and three acrylates

California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (Oehha) has notified its intent to list tetrahydrofuran and three acrylates as carcinogens under Proposition 65. Their listing would require businesses to provide Prop 65 warnings where there are exposures to these substances above 'safe harbour' thresholds. Tetrahydrofuran (TFH) is used as a solvent in plastics, dyes, elastomers and glues, among other applications. The acrylates - 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2EHA), methyl acrylate (MA) and technical-grade trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) - are all high-production volume chemicals used in the production of various polymers and materials, such as coatings and adhesives, textiles, inks and food contact materials.
