Canada to issue proposed order to designate plastics as toxic

The Canadian government has said it will issue a proposed order on 10 October to add "plastic manufactured items" to Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (Cepa), the country’s list of toxic substances. A listing under Schedule 1 of Cepa gives the government "tools to address plastic pollution at different stages of the lifecycle of plastic manufactured items, such as manufacture, import, sale, use and disposal", Environment and Climate Change Canada said in an announcement released on 7 October.
