Canadian government unveils bill to modernise Cepa

The Canadian government has introduced a bill to modernise the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (Cepa), starting the process of the first major update to the country's toxic substances law in more than 20 years. The long-awaited modernisation bill (C-28) would retain Canada's risk-based chemicals management approach, but would bring in a recognition of the right to a healthy environment, consideration of cumulative effects of substances and stronger regulatory responses.
