Sulfuric acid sector voices concern over proposed vanadium pentoxide classification

There are no economically viable alternatives to vanadium pentoxide as a catalyst for the production of sulfuric acid, industry has told EU member states, which are currently considering a mandatory ('harmonised') category 1B carcinogenicity classification. Furthermore, the scientific evidence is insufficient to justify the proposed classification, the European Sulfuric Acid Association (ESA) - a Cefic sector group - says in a document submitted to the Competent Authorities for REACH and CLP (Caracal).
