Conductometric Determination of Fluoxetine Hydrochloride in Pharmaceutical Formulations

In the present article, the conductometric titration of fluoxetine hydrochloride in pharmaceutical products using silver nitrate as titrant is described. The method is based on the formation of an insoluble salt (AgCl(s)) between the titrant AgNO3 and the chloride of the hydrochloride (HCl) of the fluoxetine molecule. The recovery of the analyte in three samples ranged from 95.3 to 105%. The procedure is simple, precise, rapid, and inexpensive for fluoxetine hydrochloride determination. A paired t-test showed that all of the results obtained for fluoxetine hydrochloride in pharmaceutical products using the proposed conductometric method and the official method agreed at the 95% confidence level.
