Solvothermal reaction of zirconium tetrachloride and 2,2'-bipyridyl-5,5'-dicarboxylic acid in DMF system leads to the formation of a 3D metal-organic framework C12H6N2O5.33Zr (UIO-67). With the aid of postsynthetic modification (PSM) method, the Eu3+ cations were introduced into the pores of parent UIO-67 to form Eu3+ entraped products Eu3+@UIO-67. Eu3+@UIO-67 demonstrates the characteristic spectrum of Eu3+ emission. Attributed to the obvious quenching effect of the Eu3+ luminescence by Ag+, Eu3+@UIO-67 can detect Ag+ with high selectivity and sensitivity (detection limit, 0.049 AM) in aqueous media, and is utilized as a rare Ag+ fluorescent sensor formed by Eu3+ post-functionalized metal-organic frameworks.
