The exclusive physical properties such as optical, magnetic, dipole moment, electric, polarization, and photoluminescence ofmetallomesogens are extensively used in optoelectronics and display technologies. Therefore, this review is focused on the unique and versatile properties of "d block," "f block," and spin crossover metallomesogens. The impact of ligand-centered, metal-centered, and metal-ligand centered electronic transition in the exhibition of optoelectronic properties has also been reviewed in detail. Moreover, the relationship between the length of the alkyl chain and its influence onmesomorphic transition andmolecular orientation is also clearly explained. The impact of chromophoric ligands in the UV-visible absorption and luminescence spectra have also been discussed in detail. Besides, the liquid crystalline phase transition Cr <-> LC in the presence of temperature with variousmesophases such as Smectic (Sm), nematic (N), and columnar (Col) for "dblock," "f block," and metallomesogens were also discussed. The spin transition and its effect on the optical properties of spincrossover (SCO) metallomesogens have also been discussed with the Jablonski diagram. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
