MMK Metalurji sales slid on feedstock shortage in Q1

MMK Metalurji, the Turkish flat rolling subsidiary of Russia’s MMK, closed Q1 with a softening in finished products sales in sequential comparison due to a set of challenges. Nevertheless, the performance was much better than in the same period of 2020. Sales of merchant products lost 10.9% quarter-on-quarter, coming to 196,000 t over the period under review. It reflected “the shortage of semi-finished hot-rolled stock amid unscheduled repairs by key third-party contractors and challenging weather conditions in Russia and in Turkey in the first quarter, which increased the delivery time of sea cargo,” the company stressed.
