Deal prices for ASEAN billets in China hit new records

Chinese import billet market has expectedly touched a new high in deals, following skyrocketed rebar futures and domestic semis quotes. The trend may last longer. The most recent contracts were signed for Indonesian and Malaysian 3sp BOF billets at $640/t CFR China for May shipment, indicating an increase of $10/t from early this week. Vietnamese 3sp BOF billets changed hands at $635?640/t CFR China for end May shipment, up by $4?9/t over the same period. “We are active billet importers now. A big amount of deals were done for many tons,” a Chinese trader said. A deal for 10,000 t of South Korean HRB400 billets was concluded at $645/t CFR China for June shipment, Metal Expert has learnt. Non-ASEAN billet is subject for 2% import duty.
