Chinese scrap import starts slow in January-February, but gathers momentum in March

Only three small cargoes of steel scrap arrived to China during the first two months of 2021. More trading activity will be seen after customs clearance process is studied well. China imported 9,825 t of steel scrap over January-February period, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs of China. Two lots arrived from Japan and one vessel from South Korea. These two countries have since become major suppliers for China in the deals that followed later. “Firstly, they [Korea and Japan] are very close to China. Korean cargo can reach my port in two days, and Japanese in five days. For comparison, it takes two months for a delivery from the UK,” a major Chinese trader told Metal Expert.
