US obsolete scrap falls in April, prime stays firm

Price development in the US steel scrap market is mixed in April, depending on the material quality. A price for shredded grades weakened during the recent buying campaign due to healthy flows into the yards and a lack of export support. In the meantime, limited allocation of prime grades kept their prices steady. Over the April buying week, purchasing prices for shredded scrap in the US lost about $20/long t from the March levels, falling to $420?435/long t delivered to the mill in the Midwest region, Metal Expert learnt. Busheling material prices are reported within $550?560/long t delivered, which is in line with the levels achieved over March buying campaign in the Midwest.
