South Korean mill succeeds in Japanese scrap deal

South Korean steel scrap importers keep pressing for more affordable prices, citing the overall bearish moods in the segment. While exporters from Russia or the US are not that flexible in their pricing, there is interest mainly in Japanese material bookings. One of the South Korean steel producers secured a batch of Japanese HMS 2 this week, paying JPY 36,500/t ($351.7/t) FOB, which translates to around $375/t CFR South Korea, Metal Expert has learnt. According to sources, the total purchased volume was about 10,000 t. Another Korean steelmaker paid JPY 39,500/t ($380.6/t) FOB or about $404/t CFR South Korea for Japanese HMS 2 scrap last week, Metal Expert reported.
