Nucor to complete Gallatin Steel expansion by late 2021

USA’s Nucor Corporation (Nucor) plans to complete an expansion project at its flats plant Gallatin Steel in Ghent, Kentucky by late 2021. The company will shut down Gallatin Steel for 3 weeks sometime in Q4 to prepare for the commissioning. The expansion project implies reconfiguration of Nucor Steel Gallatin into an ultra-modern QSP plant (Quality Strip Production) to double the plant’s capacity to 3 million tpy, to expand maximum width of HRC to 73 inches (about 1,854 mm), and to master production of AHSS, API line pipe grades and a number of other HVA steels.
