Eurofer expects steel consumption recovery this year after worst 2020

The European Steel Association Eurofer sees a confident recovery of apparent steel consumption in 2021 and 2022 after the pandemic-related plunge in demand in 2020, which was the worst year on the record. After unprecedentedly low steel consumption in 2020, by 13% to 134 million t year on-year (–14.6% in the previous forecast), Eurofer expects it to bounce back to 152 million t (+13.3% y-o-y) in 2021 and to reach 157 million t (+3.4% y-o-y) in 2022, Metal Expert learnt from newly released Economic and Market Outlook report.
