GETTING SMARTER

Even before COVID-19 hit, Industry 4.0 technologies were transforming plastics manufacturing worldwide. Now, solutions such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and analytics have taken on new significance. But while the pandemic has accelerated the drive of many plastics processors to digitally transform, Industry 4.0 - also referred to as the fourth industrial revolution or smart manufacturing - remains a work in progress, with key standards and protocols still in development.
