It's a shame to see something valuable being misused - most of us old enough to remember still wince at the thought of basketball superstar Michael Jordan's lost year in minor league baseball, for example. In plastics processing, an equivalent waste happens every day with commercial purging compounds (CPCs), which all too often are not used properly or in the most cost-effective manner. Which is a shame because a) CPCs aren't inexpensive and b) they offer tangible benefits to processors when used properly, including shorter down- time when changing colours and resins; money saved in raw materials; and elimination of charring, black specs, and other contamination from leftover spec resin.
